The humane-exclusion philosophy that we apply to bats works just as well for other small wildlife. Whether you have raccoons in the chimney, squirrels chewing into the soffit, or skunks denning under the deck, the approach is the same: identify the entry points, install one-way exclusion devices, wait for the animals to leave on their own, and permanently seal every gap. We never trap and relocate (illegal for most species in Ontario), and we never use lethal methods.
Same humane approach, different species
We started with bats. The humane-exclusion philosophy that made our bat work successful applies just as well to other small wildlife. The species change but the principle stays the same: identify the entry points, install one-way exclusion devices, let the animals leave on their own, and seal every gap permanently.
If you came to this page from a non-bat search, here's the thing: many of our customers have multiple species at the same time. Raccoons in the chimney, squirrels in the soffits, the occasional bat colony in the attic. We handle the same way regardless.
Species we handle
Raccoons
Raccoons typically nest in chimneys, attics, and sheds — anywhere with a stable temperature and protection from weather. They're protected wildlife in Ontario, which makes "trap and relocate" illegal in most cases. Our approach: install one-way exclusion devices over the active entry point, wait for them to leave (raccoons are nocturnal — they'll head out at night to forage), then permanently cap the chimney or seal the soffit. Mother raccoons with kits get extra patience: we wait until the kits can travel before excluding to avoid stranding them.
Squirrels
Squirrels are persistent — they'll chew new entry points if old ones are sealed without addressing the underlying behaviour. The trick is patience and material choice. We use steel mesh and metal flashing in any spot a squirrel could reach because they cannot chew through either. The exclusion process is the same as for raccoons (one-way doors, wait period, permanent sealing) but the materials matter more.
Skunks
Skunks typically den under decks, sheds, porches, and outbuildings. The eviction process requires patience because rushing it will get the property sprayed. We use one-way exclusion gates positioned away from main entrance areas, give the skunks time to leave on their own (typically a week), and then seal the den point permanently. Skunks cannot dig through galvanized hardware cloth, which is what we use for the seal.
Other small wildlife
Possums, groundhogs, and the occasional fisher fall in this category. Each has its own pattern — possums prefer porches and crawl spaces, groundhogs dig burrows under foundations, fishers are rare in residential areas. We'll evaluate during the inspection. Some species — coyotes, bears, large raptors — fall outside our specialty; for those we refer to the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources or to specialized contractors.
What we do NOT do
- Trap and relocate. This is illegal for most species in Ontario, ineffective (relocated animals typically die or return), and contradicts the humane philosophy our work is built on.
- Lethal removal. We're a humane-exclusion specialist. Cases requiring lethal removal (rare but they exist — diseased animals, extreme structural damage) get referred to the Ministry of Natural Resources.
- Larger predators. Coyote, bear, and similar work needs a different specialty. We'll refer.
Lifetime Warranty
If a bat re-enters through any point we sealed, we come back and do all the work necessary — at no extra cost. Forever.
The same Lifetime Warranty applies to our wildlife exclusion work — if any animal re-enters through a point we sealed, we return and re-do the work at no extra cost. Full terms in our Terms of Service.
Pricing
Every home is different — and wildlife pricing varies more than bat pricing because species and access difficulty differ widely. A raccoon in a chimney is a different job than skunks under a deck. Get a free, no-obligation quote after a brief inspection.
Frequently asked
What does the lifetime warranty actually cover?
If a bat re-enters through any point we sealed, we come back and do all the work necessary — at no extra cost. Forever. Coverage applies to every entry point our team sealed during the original exclusion. The warranty is transferable to new owners if you sell the home, with no expiration date. What it does not cover: entry points we did not seal (a new gap that opened after our work), points created by storm damage or third-party renovation, or substantial renovation that compromises the original sealing work. Full terms in /terms.
How much does bat removal cost?
Honest answer: it varies. Costs depend on home size, the number of entry points, how long the colony has been active, and whether attic cleanup and decontamination are needed. We do not publish a fixed range because every home truly is different — a small home with four entry points is a very different job from a similar home with fourteen, and a five-year-old infestation that has soaked the insulation is a different job from one caught in the first season. Every home is different. Get a free, no-obligation quote after a brief inspection. Most exclusions in our Grey Bruce Simcoe service area fall in a typical range, which we will share during the on-site inspection once we have actually seen what the job involves.
Are quotes really free?
Yes. On-site inspection, written quote, no commitment to proceed and no pressure tactics. We do this because every home is different and quoting accurately requires actually seeing the home — the roofline, the soffits, the attic if accessible, and the actual entry points. Inspections take 30 to 60 minutes depending on home size. You get the quote in writing and can take all the time you need to decide. There is no obligation to book the work after the inspection, and no fee if you decide not to proceed.
How fast can you come?
Inspection within three to five business days is the norm. Same-week service across Grey Bruce Simcoe is what most homeowners get. Emergencies — a bat flying around a bedroom at midnight, an immediate health concern, a confirmed bite or skin contact — get same-day response when possible. We do not run an after-hours emergency line, but the contact form is monitored and our team responds first thing in the morning. For non-urgent inspections during peak season (late spring and summer), book early — the calendar fills up.
Do you remove other wildlife besides bats?
Yes — raccoons, squirrels, skunks, possums, and occasionally groundhogs and fishers. Same humane-exclusion approach as bats: identify the entry points, install one-way devices so the animals leave on their own, wait for the structure to clear, then seal every gap permanently. We do not trap-and-relocate (illegal for most species in Ontario, and it just kills the animals slowly anyway) and we do not use lethal methods. See our wildlife removal service at /services/wildlife-removal for details on which species we handle, our process, and which situations we refer out to other specialists.
